Corn Has Many Forms

Here in The Region, there is so much corn that it can even feel suffocating to live here at times. For some reason, many people get irritated with the fact that so much corn grows here. What they don't realize, is that the farming industry is NWI is why we have business coming and going in the area. Without crops, it would be a dead zone. Businesses would lose money, people would lose jobs, and people would stop coming and going, and eventually, people would just leave and not come back. This may sound unbelievable, but we need corn more than we think. We use corn for many things other than food.

Plastic

Corn-based plastic products have been on the rise in recent years. By using corn, it decreases the cost of manufacture, because it is cheaper than oil. It also reduces the damage plastic does to the environment.

Cosmetics and Hygiene

Cornstarch is used in various hygiene, and cosmetic products. It is very commonly used in deodorants since it is a natural absorbent.

Cough Drops

Corn syrup is used to give sweetness to cough drops. It also helps manufacturers with shaping and wrapping due to its bendy nature. White sugar will just make it flake and break.

Batteries

Cornstarch can be used as an electrical conductor. There are even some car batteries that have derivatives of corn electricity, called bioelectricity.
